- For public care, you need to be registered with your regional health service and know your assigned health centre
- For private care, an active insurance policy or willingness to pay directly
Step-by-step process
- Public care: book by phone, through your region's health app or web portal, or in person at your health centre
- Public care: for a specialist, you'll generally need a referral from your primary-care doctor first, obtained at a prior appointment
- Private care: book directly online or by phone with the clinic or specialist, checking they're in your insurer's network first if relevant
- Confirm your appointment details (date, time, location) and arrive with your health card or insurance details
